Mike Shimmin entered the accounting profession in October 1986, after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Management (emphasis in accounting) from Golden Gate University and an eight-year hiatus that included a Masters degree from North Park Theological Seminary and serving youth ministries in Marin County. Mike was hired by a prominent Marin County firm and obtained experience in auditing, accounting, long and short range business planning, projections, litigation support, personnel recruiting and management, and taxation of individuals and closely held businesses. He has extensive experience with nonprofit corporations and construction companies. He received his certification in January 1989 and quickly rose through the ranks to Manager.

Joining Ghirardo CPA in September of 2001, he oversees the financial reporting services including audits, financial projections, and valuations. This background has been especially useful in his primary interest which is consulting with small businesses on a broad cross-section of services including strategic planning, individual and corporate tax planning, valuation calculations, buy/sell planning, and bank financing.

Mike belongs to a small category of long time Marin residents able to claim that he attended the same high school as his grandmother, mother, and father. In fact, his great grandmother lived in San Francisco at the time of the great earthquake in 1906. Mike enjoys hiking and woodworking, and is actively involved in his church community.
